The government will begin the distribution of food grants from October 10, 2024, to over 800,000 farmers affected by the dry spell that hit the northern and middle belt of the country.
According to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, each farmer will be given a 25kg bag of rice and 100kg of maize.
Speaking at a presser in Accra on Tuesday, the Abetifi MP noted that the distribution forms part of the government’s existing interventions to curb the impact on the affected farmers.
“From the 10th of October, we will commence the distribution of food grants to over 800,000 farmers in the 8 affected regions. Each farmer will receive 25kg of rice and 100kg of maize.”
“To bring relief to the general population, we are setting up an online grains market starting on the 10th of October to enable the public to conveniently access grains (maize and rice) at affordable prices,” he stated.
